Who Doesn't Want a Heart?

We’ve done it. We’ve officially confined our happiness to how many likes we get on social media application - at least according to this study we have. Now that we have come to terms with this sad fact, there are two options. You could leave social media and seek happiness elsewhere, maybe even in the company of real people. Or you could look at ways to maximise your happiness by nabbing more followers and hopefully more likes. If you’re going to opt for the former, then allow us to guide you through the best ways to garner the affection of the 200-over million users of Instagram and even more little red hearts for likes.

1. #Hashtag Away!

Although people are accused of using overly boring or common hashtags, or putting one (dozen) too many, it’s been proven that the ‘like for like’ tag has actually gotten users more likes. Unique hashtags used repeatedly can also put a user on the radar with others using the hashtag.

2. Edit your images

This doesn’t mean using the same Instagram filters as everyone else. There are plenty of photo editing apps out there like Pixlr and VSCO Cam that can make your pictures look instantly more attractive with a few simple touches.

3. Stick to a schedule

Be consistent in posting - it could be daily or weekly, as long as you make your updates something people can look forward to at a particular time.

4. Don’t be boring!

A themed profile could be useful, but remember that your followers will only enjoy so many pictures of the same skyline or plates of food before they get bored. Switch it up a little!

5. Interact with your audience
Responding to comments will keep people interested in coming back to share their opinions, and possibly provide you with invaluable feedback. Also, having a personal touch is always something that keeps people relatable!
